The 112 BE app, an app which has existed for around six years and allows Belgians to contact emergency services without the need for calling, can soon be used to contact emergency services in case of flooding.
The 112 app allows those who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech impediment to easily contact emergency services. It also allows citizens to indicate information about medical conditions, such as heart problems or diabetes. The service is available in each of Belgium's national languages.
The 1722 emergency number has now been added to the app, which allows users to request the intervention of firefighters during flooding.

“From today, both the electronic counter and the number 1722 will be accessible via the 112 BE app. Citizens can use ‘1722’ to request the intervention of the fire brigade in the event of flooding or damage caused by a storm,” Belgium’s civil security announced on 11 February.

Citizens should not use 1722 to report damages which can be fixed without the help of the fire brigade, such as fallen trees, damages to garden sheds, damage to vehicles, or power failures.
