A record number of visitors were recorded at the Binche Carnival this past weekend. The carnival, which started on 19 February and ended on Mardi Gras (21 February), attracted 135,366 visitors, according to the carnival organisers.

"The Binche Carnival 2023 was truly exceptional in more ways than one," the Binche authorities said in a statement on Wednesday. "Over the three Gras days, 135,366 unique visitors were counted. This figure testifies to the general enthusiasm for reliving the Binche Carnival after two years of the pandemic."

More than 200 journalists obtained accreditation to cover the carnival. "We have seen more radio and television coverage than in other years, especially on Mardi Gras. Journalists present at the Carnival came from Belgium, France, Spain, Great Britain and Lithuania," said the city authorities.
