Train collides with car near Ghent

A train collided with a car in the Flemish municipality of Deinze, near Ghent, on Monday afternoon. The train was carrying 130 passengers, who all had to be evacuated. No injuries were reported.

The accident occurred at around 13:15 when the train, which was travelling between Antwerp-Central and De Panne, hit a parked car at a level crossing.

No one was in the vehicle at the time of the collision. All passengers on the train had to be evacuated but were able to take buses running between Kortrijk and Deinze.

While investigators determine the circumstances behind the collision, nearby rail traffic is said to have been disrupted.
