Cyclists and walkers in the two Limburgs will be happy to hear that for the next couple of months, the three bicycle ferries that cross the river Meuse (Maas in Dutch) will be free of charge, thanks to the involvement of partners on the Belgian and Dutch sides.
The ferry picks up the walkers and cyclists at three locations: between Ophoven and Ohé en Laak, between Rotem and Grevenbicht and between Uikhoven and Geulle.
This new change will especially affect those who live along or near the two borders. The Flemish Mobility Minister Lydia Peters is hopeful that this will increase tourism in the area and help with bicycle traffic.

From May to September, the ferries will run from 10:00 to 18:00. They will only run on the weekends from 10:00 to 18:00, as they have in the past, during April and October.
A shipping company has been found to serve the ferries for the next three years, but the company is looking for skippers.
