Brussels Airport announced on Wednesday it is expecting nearly 1.1 million passengers during the spring holidays. A figure that is 200,000 higher than last year’s holiday, which was still marked by a cautious recovery in the wake of the Covid pandemic.

Friday 31 March and Sunday 2 April will be the main departure days for the first holiday weekend.

The trendiest sunny destinations include Spain and the Canary Islands, Portugal, Cape Verde, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Italy, Croatia, Greece, Turkey, Malta and Cyprus. City trips in Europe are also popular, as are far-flung destinations such as the US, Canada, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Mexico and the United Arab Emirates which are on the rise.

In total, the airport will offer direct flights to 160 different destinations.

“For passengers traveling to the airport by car, it is strongly advised to book a parking space online in advance,” Brussels Airport warns, however, reminding that the site is also accessible via public transport.

For the first time ever, only Flemish-speaking schoolchildren will have the Easter holidays off, scheduled from 1 to 16 April. The French-speaking schools will close their doors during the first two weeks of May.
