The 30th edition of FACTS, a fantasy fair also known as “comic con”, opened on Saturday morning at Flanders Expo in Ghent. This year again, the organisers are expecting more than 40,000 visitors.

Among them should be many fans of films, series, games, board games, cosplay, superheroes, cartoons, K-Pop and all other forms of pop culture.

“At each edition, we try to find a balance between what people expect and unique innovation that you won’t find anywhere else,” says organiser Anthony Audenaerd.

The first edition of FACTS took place in the Ghent café Het Tonneke in 1993. About forty fans were present then. Today, the fair attracts over 40,000 people.

The event “accelerates interest in pop culture, just as Tomorrowland does for electronic music,” says Anthony Audenaerd. “A large proportion of our visitors come from all over Europe to attend our comic-con.”

Over the years, the target group has become more diverse. There are more families and the organisation is trying to cater for them.

In the past, Tom Felton (actor in Harry Potter) and Carrie Fisher (actress in Star Wars) have attended the event in Ghent.
