A 29-year-old man with a mental disability was assaulted for no apparent reason by two men last Thursday. The victim is now in hospital with a blood clot in his brain. Both suspects have since been arrested, the prosecutor’s office said.

Originally from Evergem, East Flanders, the man had been living for three years in Sint-Kruis-Wink, where he lived independently with some outside help.

The man was contacted by two individuals from Zottegem, who lured him to the municipality with the promise of €10 and a mobile phone. However, once he arrived there, he was savagely beaten by the duo. The suspects filmed their attack on the vulnerable person.
