Metros in Brussels are once again running like normal on lines 2 and 6. On Friday morning, services were disrupted for almost six hours after a fatal accident occurred between the Elisabeth and Arts-Loi stops.
The fatal accident occurred around 05:15 on Friday morning when the first metro was travelling from Simonis/Elisabeth metro station in the northwest of the region. This resulted in traffic being interrupted for almost six hours.
Metro services were interrupted until after 11:00 on Friday morning. STIB then confirmed that the metros were once again riding like normal.
What happened?
On Friday morning, the conductor of the first metro from Simonis/Elisabeth noticed that he had hit something in the tunnel between the Ribaucourt and Yser stations.
He stopped the metro and found a person lying on the tracks. The police and the Brussels public prosecutor's office were notified and are investigating the circumstances of the accident.

STIB confirmed the interruption of the two lines and told The Brussels Times at 10:00 that it was unclear when the lines can once again be used between the two stops, as the Brussels public prosecutor's office was at the scene to investigate the incident.
In all probability, the accident is not an act of desperation but involves a person who had spent the night in the metro tunnel. However, further investigation is needed.
