The net financial wealth of Belgians amounted to €1136.3 billion at the end of 2022 – a drop of €94.5 billion compared to the end of 2021, the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) said in a statement on Friday.
The financial assets of Belgians shrank by €78.2 billion in 2022, which is mainly explained by the weakening of stock market prices and by the rise in interest rates. In contrast, people did continue to invest in investment funds (+€10.9 billion) and listed shares (+€3.4 billion) in 2022.
