Belgian aviator dies after being caught by the propeller of his plane

A Belgian aeroplane pilot died in an accident on Thursday afternoon during an airshow in Prouvy, near Valenciennes, in the Hauts-de-France region, French regional daily La Voix du Nord reported on Friday.

He was caught by a propeller when the engine started and later succumbed to his injuries in the emergency room of Valenciennes Hospital.

The accident occurred on the tarmac of Valenciennes Airport, in Prouvy.

The aviator, a former British Airways airline pilot, regularly took part in air shows, including the one in Prouvy. He was the owner of two Russian Yakovlev planes, located at the airport.

Contacted by Belga, the Belgian Foreign Affairs Department was not immediately able to confirm the death.
