Another nine Delhaize shops were closed on Thursday in protest against plans to spin them off, Delhaize spokesman Roel Dekelver said. Eight are in Brussels and one in Wallonia. All shops in Flanders remain open.

After a reconciliation meeting with management and unions came to nothing on Tuesday, unions had warned that strikes would be stepped up. Yet so far, fewer shops have been closed every day.

Delhaize was ordered by the court to ban strike posts for shops and depots in a number of locations, for now until the end of April. It is sending bailiffs to branches where strike posts do appear.
