"Seg, thanks!" is the name of a new bicycle safety campaign launched Monday by Flemish Minister of Mobility and Public Works Lydia Peeters. The campaign will run until 30 May and highlights behavioural tips to make cycling safer for both cyclists and motorists.

The Flemish Foundation for Traffic Knowledge (VSV) is implementing the campaign through the distribution of videos in a broad digital campaign that will address behavioural tips for increased safety on the roads.

"These are tips for cyclists and for motorists. They are simple rules with which road users can spare each other dangerous situations and annoyances: look over your shoulder before you get out, keep your distance when overtaking, and give way when you have to," stated Mobility Minister Peeters.

Conflicts between cars and cyclists are the most common in traffic, accounting for 22.5% of the total number of accidents in 2022. 5% of all accidents happen between cyclists, but these accidents have risen sharply compared to 2021 (+26%).

According to Peeters, these figures need to change. This can be done by investing in safe infrastructure – this legislature will free up €1.4 billion for safe and comfortable cycle paths, as well as awareness-raising campaigns, such as 'seg, thanks!'.
