An explosion occurred in a building in Ganshoren on Tuesday evening, subsequently causing a fire, Brussels Fire Brigade reports.

Several teams went to the scene and brought the fire under control. Three people were injured, with one person's life still in danger.

The fire brigade was called to the Drève de Rivieren at around 20:45.

The fire was raging on the sixth floor of a twelve-storey apartment building. “Two residents were injured,” says Fire Brigade spokesperson Walter Derieuw.

One of the victims is in critical condition and has been taken to hospital, while the second was treated on the spot.

One of the firemen was also injured in a fall and will be unable to work for at least 30 days.

The inhabitants of the other flats, about 50 people, were evacuated by the police and transferred to another location.
