About 100,000 taxpayers have received incorrect proposals for simplified tax returns in recent days; this was due to an error that occurred at a subcontractor, the federal finance department said on Thursday.

“The people concerned will receive the correct information this week,” FPS Finance promised

“This was a technical error by a subcontractor responsible for printing, enclosing and mailing the simplified declaration proposals,” FPS Finance Spokesman Francis Adyns explained, after the information was broadcast by VRT NWS.

Some taxpayers received proposals addressed to other persons.

The people concerned – about 3% of recipients of simplified declaration proposals – have been identified and the error is being corrected. “They will normally receive a new letter this Thursday or Friday, first with an apology and a new, correct simplified return proposal,” Adyns said.

The spokesman stressed that this was a technical error and that the FPS Finance has the taxpayers’ correct information.

Finance will be sending out about 3.9 million simplified return proposals this year.
