A man who smuggled a knife into Brussels Airport was sentenced to 12 months in prison on Wednesday by the Brussels Criminal Court.
The man had been searched by police after it emerged that he was planning to travel on a passport that was not his own.
The facts date back to December 2021.
After passing through security screenings without a problem, the defendant was required to submit to a search by police when the airline noticed he had presented someone else’s passport. The officers found the knife in the insole of one of his shoes.
The man, who had two previous convictions for theft, was sentenced in absentia on Wednesday.
