An adult education centre on Rue de l’Étoile in Uccle was partially evacuated on Tuesday afternoon after several people complained of breathing problems and eye tract irritation, the Brussels Fire Brigade announced.
The fire services deployed their “Hazmat” team, which specialises in dangerous products.
“About 200 people were evacuated from the school and about 30 of them were taken care of by an advanced medical post,” said fire brigade spokesman Walter Derieuw.”
Another six individuals will probably be taken to hospital for further tests, although their condition is relatively stable.
The Marlow police zone (Uccle/Auderghem/Watermael-Boitsfort) has set up a security perimeter around the building, as well as a medical intervention plan. The exact cause of the irritations has not yet been determined.
