Train traffic was severely disrupted in the La Louviere area in the early afternoon after an old war shell was discovered on a building site in rue Edouard Anseele.
With bomb disposal services having arrived on the scene, train traffic was however quickly restored, rail infrastructure manager Infrabel said on Thursday.
A 150-metre-wide security perimeter had been set up around the area after the alert was given at around 13:00.
Traffic between La Louvière-Sud and La Louvière-Centre, with consequences for three other links between Turnhout and Binche, Charleroi and Luttre and La Louvière and Braine-le-Comte.
“Traffic is now resuming normally,” Infrabel spokesperson Frédéric Sacré assured, warning however that residual delays remain possible as rush hour approaches.
