Only letter boxes with stickers will receive unaddressed advertising in Flanders

In Flanders, unaddressed advertising will now only be distributed in boxes bearing a sticker stating that it is welcome.

The region's government made a decision to that effect on Friday, as part of its waste management plan.

Until now this type of advertising has been distributed to all letter boxes, except those with a sticker stating that it is unwanted.

Environment Minister Zuhal Demir's waste management plan sets out the framework for waste management up to 2030. Her aim is to reduce residual waste by 30% by then, through a series of measures.

The average Fleming currently produces 471 kgs of waste a year, including 140 kgs of residual waste.
