Infrabel and SNCB announced in a press release on Thursday that major maintenance works will be carried out between Brussels-South and Hal during the night of Saturday 3 to Sunday 4 June.

Train services will be adjusted until Sunday morning at 10:00, mainly in and around Brussels.

Maintenance works are aimed at putting the European Train Control System (ETCS) into operation. Around 1,200 trains pass through Brussels-Midi station every day, according to Infrabel, a third of the trains running daily on the Belgian rail network.

The work will start on Saturday night after the last train at 02:00 and last until Sunday morning at 10:00, no trains will run on the route during this time.

Replacement buses

For 06:00, replacement buses will run between Brussels and some larger stations in the wider area, such as Mechelen, Vilvoorde, Ghent-Sint-Pieters, Aalst, Hal and Denderleeuw. A number of east-west IC trains will not stop at Brussels North-South stations and will be diverted via Mechelen.

Between 06:00 and 10:00, trains between Antwerp and Brussels, and trains between Leuven, Brussels, Ghent and the coast will be diverted. They will not stop at Brussels North and South stations, but exceptionally at Schaarbeek where passengers can change to another train bound for Brussels. Some other trains are also diverted and exceptionally stop in Denderleeuw, where passengers can also change trains.

There will be fewer trains than normal between Brussels and Brussels Airport-Zaventem until 10:00. Alternatively, these train passengers can travel via De Lijn and STIB buses.

From 10:00 onwards, train traffic will be gradually resumed. Those wishing to take the train on Sunday morning are advised to consult SNCB’s online journey planner in advance.
