Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras will now be able to detect more traffic code violations than was previously allowed, according to New Mobility.

Starting July 1, drivers blocking a road crossing or going the wrong way down a one-way street will automatically be fined.

Previously, a police officer had to see one of these violations to issue a fine. ANPR cameras can also now detect violations such as when a driver is doing a U-turn where one isn't allowed.

The cameras do have some limitations: They cannot detect if a driver is on the phone or wearing a seatbelt.

The decree also added restrictions for larger vehicles. Lorries, buses, and coaches are now prohibited from driving on the third lane, and ANPR cameras will detect trucks overtaking cars on the highway.
