Those filing their tax returns by paper will have until midnight on Friday to do so, with fines for those who fail to respect the deadline.

These fines can go up to €1,250 with a possible tax increase of 10% to 200% on undeclared income. The Friday deadline also applies to taxpayers wanting to amend the simplified declaration proposal they received from tax authorities.

According to the Ministry of Finance, "only 6% to 7% still submit their tax return by paper." Those filing online still have until 15 July to do so.

The most noteworthy change this year is that joint tax returns have been made gender-neutral for married or legally cohabiting heterosexual couples.

In previous years, joint tax returns always included the man’s information in the left-hand column and the woman’s in the right-hand column. This has now been changed with the left-hand column now belonging to the eldest partner, with the younger of the two completing the right-hand column.
