Global travel site Big 7 Travel has put together a list of the 50 best sandwich spots in Europe of 2019 based on reader's tips and feedback, and three Belgian shops made the cut.

The highest scoring Belgian shop, in 30th place, is Pistolet Original (pictured), in Brussels. The shop makes pistolets, which are simple white bread rolls, and offers a large choice of local high-quality toppings, like home-made steak tartare, salted pork hash with pickles, grey shrimps, cream cheese with radish and onions and gouda cheese with “witloof” and green salad.

34th on the list is Holy Smoke, also in Brussels. They cook their meat “low and slow” in true Texas BBQ style, and use sauce liberally according to Big 7 Travel.

In 44th place is the Mitraillette sandwich in the Brussels shop Fritland. A Mitraillette is technically less of a sandwich and more of an entire meal inside a baguette. These sandwiches consist of sliced meat at the base, a portion of chips on top, and a spicy tomato and mayo-based sauce.

The best sandwich in Europe, according to Big 7 Travel, is the traditional porchetta sandwich in the Osteria All’antico Vinaio in Florence, Italy. The last sandwich to make it on the list is the deep fried shrimp sandwich in The Pot Belly shop in Cyprus.
