More than 300 extras will be taking part over the weekend in the commemoration of the Battle of Waterloo. They will be camping in bivouacs accessible to visitors.

Two re-enactments of the battle between the Allies and Napoleon's French troops are scheduled for Saturday evening and Sunday morning at Hougoumont Farm in Walloon Brabant.

The re-enactment of certain phases of the battle will take place on Saturday at 8.30pm and Sunday at 10.30am at the farm’s north gate. The extras will manoeuvre there all day, while a civilian village will host craftsmen and trades from the period.

A 3D film will be shown at the Wellington Memorial and Museum, which will be open all weekend.

There will also be continuous activities at Napoleon’s last headquarters in Vieux-Genappe. At 10.30 a.m. on Saturday, the Emperor and his staff will disembark there to the music of the First Foot Grenadier Regiment of the Imperial Guard. At 1.00 p.m, they will sit down to dinner in their tent.

The event will include demonstrations of how to care for the wounded, activities for children and tours of the bivouacs.
