France sees near 1,000 arrests and widescale property damage amid protests

Almost 1,000 individuals were apprehended following various violent incidents in France on Friday night, following the killing of 17 year old Nahel M. by a police officer on Tuesday.

The Ministry added that as many as 79 officers and members of the Gendarmerie had suffered injuries.

Additionally, damage to properties was also significant, with approximately 1,350 vehicles and 234 buildings either burnt down or damaged in the commotion.

Moreover, over 2,560 cases of arson were recorded in public areas. While Paris drew much attention, several other French cities were also affected by the widespread unrest. These included Marseille, Lyon, Saint-Etienne, and Grenoble, all of which witnessed similar episodes of violence.
