A 61-year-old Belgian has been identified as the person involved in a deadly mountain accident last week on the Dufourspitze mountain in Switzerland.
Swiss police had at first been unable to determine the victim's identity. However, the local prosecutor's office confirmed his age and nationality on Monday.
They confirmed that the victim was a 61-year-old Belgian man who lived in the Swiss canton of Vaud.
His body had been discovered by fellow climbers, with the prosecutor's office believing that "he had probably set off alone" on the mountain peak before falling 200 metres to his death.
Swiss police have since opened an investigation to determine the precise circumstances that caused the fall.
