The municipality of Evergem and the railway manager Infrabel said they plan to remove all intersections of public roads and railways.

The goal of the plan is to make sure cars, cyclists, and pedestrians are safer, reports VRT.

There are 11 railroad crossings in Evergem that would have to be eliminated. Instead, bicycle and pedestrian tunnels and bridges or tunnels for cars would be built.

There are no concrete plans yet, but alderman Lucas Van der Meersch (CD&V) said additional studies would be done.

Infrabel will also be providing land to extend the F42 bicycle road into Evergem.
