A young motorcyclist died on Thursday evening in Laarne (East Flanders) after colliding with a tree in the garden of a nearby house.
The East Flanders Public Prosecutor's Office has appointed a traffic expert to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident.
The events took place at around 22:00 on the Heirweg in Laarne. Several witnesses reported that they passed several cars before one of the motorbikes veered off course. The motorcyclist lost control of his vehicle, came off the road and hit a tree in the garden of a house. The motorbike caught fire, but the driver was able to be pulled away from the vehicle.
The first people on the scene tried to resuscitate the victim, but he died at the scene of the accident.
