National Day: Antwerp pays tribute to soldiers who fell in World Wars

The City of Antwerp paid tribute on Friday to the soldiers gave their lives during the two world wars, at a ceremony held on the occasion of National Day, celebrated each year on 21 July .

This year, the ceremony highlighted contemporary challenges and the question of plurality within society.

A traditional Te Deum was held in the Cathedral of Our Lady of Antwerp at about 10 a.m. Then, around midday, participants gathered at the Monument to the Fallen Soldiers in the Stadspark, a park located at the junction of the Rubenslei and the Van Eycklei.
