All Belgians on the Greek islands of Corfu and Rhodes who were contacted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are safe, the department said on Wednesday evening.
Both islands are currently affected by violent forest fires.
The Foreign Affairs Department has sent two staff members to the severely affected island of Rhodes. They are based at a crisis centre set up by the Greek government at Rhodes Airport, from where they are providing consular assistance to Belgians who need it.
In the last 24 hours, solutions have still been found for “some Belgians," in consultation with the Greek authorities, tour operators and airlines, the Department said.
Foreign Affairs continues to advise Belgians to always follow the instructions of the local authorities and to contact their tour operator before departure for more information about staying in Rhodes or Corfu.
