The body of a man found off the Belgian coast at the start of July has been identified by British police, BBC News reports.
The body belongs to Iain Hughes, a 42-year-old British firefighter. British media reports that, following two years of training, the man had set out to swim the English Channel on behalf of a charity.
The man disappeared on 20 June and a rescue operation to find the missing swimming had produced no results. The firefighter was last seen near the stern of a support boat when he went missing in French waters.
The man had successfully raised £56,000 on behalf of charity, with well-wishers adding additional funds with the news of his disappearance.
