It is not common to spot a $250,000 Lamborghini Huracán in Belgium, even less so to see one covered in Italian police insignia. But this is exactly what several Belgians have reported seeing on the E411 motorway near Sterpenich.
In a photo posted on the Facebook page of Belgian Italian-language radio station Radio-Hitalia, the luxury sports car, which boasts an impressive 600 horsepower and can reach a top speed of 325 kilometres per hour, can be seen cruising down the Belgian motorway. The car is painted police blue, equipped with emergency lights and polizia on the front and sides.
Speculation immediately circulated online as to what the luxury sports car was doing so far from Italy. One Facebook user spotted the very same vehicle just days earlier in Italy's Calabria region. Some hypothesised that the vehicle had been to a car meet up or that it had been seized by the government.
What is known is that the Italian police own two Lamborghini Hurácans which were donated sometime in the last few years. The police are known to use the vehicles for special missions.
One theory popularised online is that the vehicle was being used for an urgent organ transport. It was hypothesised that the vehicle had been requisitioned by the Italian government for this purpose. In the past, the Italian police Lamborghinis have been tasked with transporting organs across Italy. The two supercars have apparently conducted more than 200 missions since being donated to the police.
However, La Libre Belgique claims to know the real reason, citing sources within the police. While Belgium is a member of Eurotransplant (the international organisation responsible for coordinating organ transplants between eight European countries), Italy is not, meaning that organ transport from Italy to Belgium is unlikely.

A new more curious answer seems most likely. "When a police force from another country crosses our territory, we are automatically informed," the Massul (Neufchâteau) traffic police told La Libre. "In this case, we can confirm that the Italian police vehicle passed through at the beginning of the week. Why did it pass? This is totally confidential information that we cannot divulge."
This mysterious confirmation opens the door to a whole array of questions. What were the Italian police doing in Belgium? And what mission could possibly necessitate a Lamborghini? Numerous hypotheses are possible. It could relate to an urgent extradition of a detainee, a police operation in the drug trafficking world, a police escort for a celebrity; all are plausible.
