The biennial KU[N]ST Leuven festival will honour the painter Dieric Bouts at its next edition, from 22 September to 14 January 2024.

The four-month festival will honour the artist's memory and work under the name 'New Horizons' in a collaborative effort by the City of Leuven, KU Leuven and various cultural partners. The tribute to the artist will include a major exhibition, performances, club nights and Belgium's first 4D music festival.

The Leuven painter Dieric Bouts (1410-1475) was one of the most important Flemish Masters. He followed in the footsteps of other great names such as Jan Van Eyck and Rogier Van der Weyden, and was one of the first artists from the northern Netherlands to successfully introduce linear perspective into painting.

An exhibition of his work at the M Leuven museum will bring together around 25 of the artist's masterpieces, including the triptychs of 'The Last Supper' and 'The Martyrdom of Saint Erasmus' (previously on display at Leuven's Saint-Pierre church), which will undoubtedly be the highlight of the festival.

Other works by the Flemish Master – currently exhibited in renowned museums such as the Louvre in Paris, the Prado in Madrid and The National Gallery in London – will also return to Leuven for the occasion.
