A man was arrested on Saturday after reportedly kidnapping and beating a young woman in Seraing, the Liège public prosecutor's office said on Sunday.
The man, born in 1998, met the young woman on Friday evening. After spending the night together at his place, the woman returned home at dawn on Saturday.
When the young man got up, he reportedly noticed that €1,500 of his own money had gone missing. Believing that the she had stolen the cash, he went to the young woman's home, where he broke down the front door.
Grabbing the woman by the hair, the man beat her up and locked her in the boot of her car. He also stole her mobile phone.
As he left the scene, witnesses called the police. The police quickly found the vehicle, apprehended the individual and released the young woman.
Already well known to the judicial authorities, the man was arrested and brought before the Liège public prosecutor's office on Sunday. An investigating judge has been assigned to the case.
The man is facing charges of attempted extortion, kidnapping, theft, assault and battery.
