An investigation has been launched by the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office following the discovery of a lifeless body on Rue du Progrès in Schaerbeek on Sunday morning, the Prosecutor’s Office announced on Tuesday.

"The Brussels-North police zone was notified at around 03:30 on Sunday of the discovery of a person lying on the ground on the Rue du Progrès in Schaerbeek. The police and emergency services were immediately called to the scene. They were only able to note the death of this person," explained the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office.

"A judicial exclusion perimeter has been set up in order to preserve traces useful to the investigation. Having been notified of the facts, the deputy public prosecutor ordered the initial investigative duties, namely the interviewing of witnesses and the viewing of surveillance camera images," it continued.

"The investigation is continuing to establish the circumstances of the events. The Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office will make no further comment on this case at this stage."
