A driver was pulled over in Braine-l’Alleud on Thursday morning with more than two grammes of alcohol in his blood, according to the local police.

Braine police officers noticed a vehicle parked at around 5 a.m. on Thursday in the middle of a carriageway in the Walloon Brabant town.

As they were about to intervene, the officers saw the vehicle restart and head straight for them. The driver finally stopped after they pulled him over.

The 33-year-old man, a resident of Braine-l’Alleud, was heavily intoxicated. He had a level of 0.91 milligrammes of alcohol per litre of exhaled air, which worked out to more than two grammes of alcohol in his blood.

The offender was taken to the police station, where he spent Thursday morning in a drunk tank before being interviewed.

His driving licence has been withdrawn for an initial period of 15 days and he is due to be summoned before the police court.
