Recently resigned Belgian Justice Minister Vincent Van Quickenborne participated in a so-called "Kern" government meeting on Saturday afternoon. The Kern meeting is an exclusive ministerial committee, convening Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and other senior government ministers.
This group gathered at 15:00 with the aim of achieving "complete transparency" in the aftermath of Van Quickenborne's resignation on Friday evening.
Van Quickenborne's departure stems from his Ministry's failure to deport Tunisian national Abdessalem Lassoued following the latter's failed asylum application three years ago.

On Monday evening, Lassoued killed two Swedish citizens in Brussels. The 45-year-old self-proclaimed "follower of ISIS" died on Tuesday morning after being shot by Belgian police at a café not far from his home in Schaerbeek.
Joining the meeting are Interior Minister Annelies Verlinden (CD&V), interim Commissioner General of the Federal Police Eric Snoeck, and Brussels Attorney General Johan Delmulle.
Although Van Quickenborne's resignation has not yet been formally accepted, there is no doubt that it soon will be. His successor is expected to be appointed sometime this weekend.
