The Public Prosecutor asked for a 12-year prison sentence for Yannick F., the defendant in the case of a student rape on the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) campus in Ixelles in December 2022.
The magistrate also requested that Yannick F. be placed at the disposal of the Court for the Execution of Sentences (TAP) for a period of five years. Judgement will be handed down on 29 November.
The accused, a 25-year-old man of no fixed abode in Belgium, is being prosecuted for raping a 21-year-old student in her first year of a bachelor’s degree in bioengineering at ULB on the evening of 28 December 2022. The young woman was violently sexually assaulted as she left a building on the Plaine campus, Boulevard de la Plaine in Ixelles.
It appears that the accused had been "hanging around" the campus for several years. In 2021, two female students lodged a complaint against him for indecent exposure.
At the end of September 2022, he was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment for assault and battery resulting in death without intent, following a fight with another homeless man on the site of the Delta hospital in Auderghem. He was conditionally released shortly after sentencing, having served half his sentence in pre-trial detention, and in October he returned to prowl around the La Plaine campus. He sexually harassed a female student, threatened her and stole from her.
In addition, the psychiatric report produced for the investigation shows that this man is likely to re-offend and that he represents a danger to society.
