A famous tower in Bruges played the theme tune to the hit US sitcom 'Friends' in honour of actor Matthew Perry, who died last weekend.

Several videos posted on social media show the bells of the Belfry of Bruges, one of the city's most iconic landmarks, playing the famous chorus of 'I'll be There for You' by the Rembrandts. The videos have been watched more than a million times on TikTok alone.

In an interview with VRT, bell ringer Wim Berteloot explained that he felt compelled to play the song as soon as he heard of Perry's passing.

"When I heard the news of his death, I immediately started looking for the score for the opening credits," he said. "I thought the tourists would appreciate it, but I didn't expect it to spread like this."

Perry, who played Chandler Bing on the show, died at his home in Los Angeles on Saturday. He was 54 years old.
