A restructured Christmas market and an enchanting light-based art trail are just two of the attractions included on Namur's end-of-year programme, revealed on Thursday by the Walloon capital's authorities.

This year's programme, to be held under the banner of Namur in Light, will see the Christmas market organised by a new operator, the Colors Production company,  introducing many innovations.

From 1 December to 7 January, a much-anticipated ice rink will return to Angel Square, accompanied by a few chalets and fairground attractions.

Theatre Square will enter the arrangement for the first time, with Father Christmas present in his chalet from 9 to 23 December, treating children to a unique reindeer carousel ride.

The layout of the main market on Arms Square will also be entirely reimagined, to become a more open space. It will host a large two-storey Swiss chalet alongside 50 meticulously selected artisans.

Namur's authorities stress that they have made a sizable invest in decorations and lighting to ensure that the Walloon capital captivates both young and old.

Since 2020, the city also hosts a bright artistic trail to celebrate the end of the year. This year is no exception. The trail will be in place from 8 December to 7 January and will feature nine new works. These pieces, mostly crafted by local artists, will be scattered across the city, from the Nave to the Peace Forum, and including the Delta, Vegetable Market Square and Saint-Loup Church.

A significant innovation this year is that visitors can navigate from one work of art to the next following a game of riddles.

A variety of additional entertainment complements the programme. Further information can be accessed at www.namurenlumiere.be.
