Vinted – the online marketplace for buying and selling second-hand items, mainly clothing and accessories – will no longer support PayPal as a payment method on its platform in Belgium from Thursday 23 November.

On Monday 20 November, Belgian Vinted users relying on the quick, easy and secure services of PayPal to do their second-hand shopping received bad news: the service will no longer be supported by the app.

"To be able to continue your purchases, you will need to add a new payment method to your account," Vinted's warning message reads. "The most frequent payment methods are credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, Payconiq and Google Pay."

Vinted did not specify the reason behind the decision but clarified that adding a new payment method is possible when ordering, after clicking on the 'purchase' button. "If you use one of these payment methods, your information will be processed securely. Vinted does not store any payment information."

In France, PayPal has not been available on Vinted since 25 May, which left users with a lot of concerns about their security. Not only did PayPal allow buyers to pay for their purchase in instalments, it also offers buyer protection that Vinted does not provide against scams – which are rife on the platform.
