Investigators discovered a crystal methamphetamine lab in the burnt-out buildings of a business complex in an industrial zone in Limburg, the province’s public prosecutor confirms.

On 25 October, several buildings went up in flames when a fire broke out in the Kieleberg industrial zone in Caetsbeek, in Bilzen. An investigation was launched into the origins of the fire when an abnormal odour was detected during the clean-up.

A police dog discovered where the fire had originated. Traces of a drug lab were discovered in the rubble of the collapsed building, HLN writes.

An investigation into the incident has revealed that the fire was caused by an explosion in a crystal meth drug lab located in one of the buildings.

It is not yet known who is behind the crystal meth lab in Bilzen. An investigation is ongoing.

A total of 13 drug labs have been discovered in the Limburg province in 2019, according to Nieuwsblad.

The most recent discovery marks “an extremely disturbing and alarming trend," the Limburg public prosecutor laments.
