The city of Namur unveiled its Christmas village on Friday, introducing a host of changes introduced by a new operator.

The primary Christmas market on the Place d’Armes, open until 31 December, has undergone a complete transformation aimed at making it brighter, like the rest of the Walloon capital.

It now hosts for the first time a grand, two-tiered Swiss chalet, while the arrangement of the stalls hosting some 50 artisans is designed to be more spacious.

The Place du Théâtre has also been incorporated into the new layout. A unique carousel, featuring reindeer and sleighs, now proudly stands there. Santa Claus will be in attendance in his cabin from 9 to 23 December.

Ice skating makes a comeback at the Place de l’Ange until 7 January, following a year of roller skating due to the energy crisis. As in previous years, fairground chalets and attractions also return to the square.

From 8 December to 7 January, the festivities will be enhanced by a luminous artistic trail, whose nine unique works, mostly created by artists from Namur, will be scattered throughout the city. Locations will include the Nef, Forum de la Paix, Delta, Place du Marché aux Légumes, and Saint-Loup Church.

Another exciting new development is that visitors can move from one exhibit to another via a riddle game.

A host of events round out the programme. All information can be obtained on the  www.namurenlumiere.be website.
