Vincent Kompany and Burnley breathed a sigh of relief after a decisive 5-0 victory at the expense of Sheffield United crowned their 14th Premier League match.

This was only the Clarets’ second win in a challenging season. The team now stands at seven points, still two shy of Luton Town, the first team safe from relegation.

However, manager Kompany remained optimistic after his team’s win. He remarked that he had told his squad before the match that he had a feeling they would be celebrating their mental strength and determination at a challenging time.

“For the other matches, we are not seen as favourites,” he continued. “With the lack of results, beginning and finishing the match as they did … The mentality in the club to start again from scratch and keep up the intensive work is unbelievable.”

The former Manchester City captain compared this mindset to that of the most successful teams. “On this level, we belong to the elite,” he said, although he added that there are many areas in which Burnley falls behind other Premier League teams.

Kompany and the Clarets hope to maintain their momentum in their upcoming match against Wolverhampton on Thursday - their 15th Premier League fixture.
