Belgian air traffic control agency Skeyes has been affected on Saturday by a snap strike, affecting take-off and landing from Brussels Airport Zaventem.

"On Saturday 23 December, Skeyes was notified that staff in the control tower of its Brussels Airport site had ceased activities. This is an unplanned 'wild' strike. Personnel will stop work at 18:00 and restart at 20:00," the agency announced in a press release.

The strike was motivated by the failure to grant leave to a member of staff already scheduled for this period, which is necessary to ensure the continuity of Skeyes' operations, management explained. "Skeyes apologises to the travellers concerned for the inconvenience caused", the statement concluded.

It is not clear how many flights have been affected.
