Engie Electrabel is on a recruitment drive to hire 200 new employees responsible for maintaining operations at the Doel 4 and Tihange 3 nuclear reactors beyond 2025, reports L'Echo.

"We are looking for 100 individuals each for Doel and Tihange. Their job isn't just to prolong the reactors' lifespan but also to manage the shutdown and decommissioning of other reactors from 2025," said spokesperson Olivier Desclée.

Engie is seeking technical and engineering profiles for open-ended contracts with attractive financial conditions. Potential recruits require security clearance and will be thoroughly vetted by the Belgian security services.

70 out of the 200 employees have already been hired, Desclée added.

Given the nuclear phase-out announced twenty years ago, Engie Electrabel has struggled in the recent years to retain its current staff, let alone attract new recruits. According to Engie Electrabel's CEO, Thierry Saegeman, the extension of the lifespan of these two reactors also secures about 4,000 direct and indirect jobs.
