A German-registered car caused several traffic accidents in Antwerp city centre on Saturday as its driver attempted to evade being caught by the police.
The vehicle, likely stolen, eventually stopped due to the damage it had sustained. Authorities eventually managed to apprehend two of the car's four occupants.
Local police officials had spotted the vehicle earlier that afternoon and attempted to inspect it. The driver then quickly drove off, causing several accidents including significant damage to a parked car, a traffic light, and the façade of a house.
After the car finally came to a halt, the occupants fled. Police were successful in catching two individuals, including the suspected driver who had no driving licence and tested positive for cannabis.
The arrested suspects are German nationals. They were detained pending consultation with the German authorities.
