Cora withdraws 'La précieuse' brand of oysters from sale

Cora stores are withdrawing a specific brand of oysters due to the presence of norovirus, the supermarket chain announced in a statement.

In cooperation with the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (AFSCA), the stores are removing ‘La Précieuse’ Isigny special oysters, sold in dozens or 2kg bags. Customers who have purchased the oysters are urged not to consume them but to return them to the store for a refund.

Norovirus can cause gastroenteritis in humans, with symptoms appearing six to 48 hours following exposure, the statement clarified.

Main symptoms include vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal cramps and nausea, in addition to less specific telltale signs such as fever, headaches and general fatigue.

“All individuals who have consumed the aforementioned product and exhibit these symptoms are advised to consult their doctor, informing them of their consumption,” Cora added.

The affected product was distributed in Cora stores and various Match and Smatch outlets from 12 to 30 December 2023.
