Strike action has disrupted operations of Flemish public transporter De Lijn around Brussels. According to De Lijn, drivers from the Leuven and Druivenstreek depots joined the strike, exacerbating issues on Friday.

The strike started spontaneously on Monday owing to an internal dispute between a manager and a group of bus drivers in Asse. Just two days later, drivers from other depots, including Dilbeek, Grimbergen, Londerzeel, Meerbeke and Leerbeek, joined the action.

On Thursday, talks between the unions and management failed to reach an agreement, leading to drivers from Leuven, Tielt-Winge and Overijse also downing tools. Reports suggest around 30% of Leuven drivers and 40% of those meant to be working around Brussels did not hit the road. Lines operated by subcontractors, however, continue unimpeded.

Many lines around Brussels, and those leading to the city, are affected by the disruptions. Notably, lines 136 between Grand-Bigard and Alsemberg, and lines 128 and 127 between Ninove and Brussels, as well as 213 and 214 between Aalst and Brussels, are experiencing disturbances.

Service cancellations may also occur in Overijse, Dilbeek, Schepdaal, Ternat, Grimbergen, Meise and Wemmel. In Leuven, lines 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, along with longer routes connecting Leuven to Diest, Brussels, and Haacht, are also affected.
