Police shut down 13 businesses during raid on Brussels shopping arcade

Thirteen shops were shut down at a shopping arcade in Porte de Namur (Ixelles) on Saturday during an unannounced multidisciplinary inspection for compliance with social and tax regulations.

According to a statement from the Labour Auditor’s Office in Brussels, fourteen shops were inspected, of which in thirteen of them Multiple violations were found.

Violations include undisclosed foreign labour, undeclared work, and part-time employment.

The control was carried out by several social inspections, including the Regional Employment Inspection, the National Social Security Office and National Institute for sickness and disability insurance inspections, and the Finance Inspection.

Support was provided by the Brussels-Capital Ixelles police zone and the federal police. A magistrate from the Labour Auditor’s office also went to the site and participated in the inspection.
