The A2 motorway, connecting the Dutch town of Maastricht to Liège, is closed from Oost-Maarland, a village in Dutch Limburg, up to the Belgian border as a farmers' protest is expected.

The closure is a precautionary measure as stated by the Dutch mobility organisation, ANWB Verkeersinformatie.

However, the route remains open in the reverse direction, from Belgium to the Netherlands.

Police in Limburg have yet to determine the number of farmers taking part and how many tractors will be deployed. The protest is scheduled from 12:00 to 15:00.

In recent days, farmers have engaged in protests on various motorways and locations within the Netherlands. The motorway protests began on Thursday night at midnight, with Belgian and Dutch farmers blocking the A67 near Eersel.

Protestors have also submitted a manifesto at many Dutch provincial town halls, expressing concern over a "pile-up of regulations", especially those stemming from the European Green Deal.
